Our little one turned 5 years old this past weekend and what a big deal it was - not so much the party but the idea that turning 5 carries so much more weight in her world. For the celebration, I tried recreating a scene from the Nutcracker, revolving around the Sugar Plum Fairy. The result, lots of white gossamer, hanging snowflakes, mini ballerinas, and a land of sweets with tea (a.k.a. hot cocoa) awaited the children. Per my daughter's request, I made a traditional Swedish Princess Cake - several trial runs would have been wise. However, I really couldn't find time to practice and so had to go with whatever goodness came out of the kitchen. My daughter loved the cake but the génoise did get a little tough on me. Thank goodness I had a forgiving audience.
