I've managed to post stories in non-chronological order, so images from Hawaii will have to wait. Fast forward a week after our return from Kona, we drove up north to Nick's Cove. Here, we spent the weekend in a cozy little cottage near the coast. Also with us were good friends and their kids. Aside from enjoying our immediate surroundings, good spots for us and the kids were the Point Reyes Visitor's Center and Bolinas - both were a short drive away.
Nick's Cove has a dozen cottages along Highway 1, and each overlooking the water. Each has a back-in-time log cabin feel with modern conveniences - ours had a wet bar, wood burning stove, and big billowy pillows on a "can't resist jumping on the bed" bed. To add to the whole home-like feel, each day little edible treasures were brought to our room - homemade fudge, warmed mission figs with honey & nuts, fresh Straus Creamery milk, and seasoned nuts.
I kept calling our getaway "camping" but it really was closer to an upscale nature holiday...or something like that.
Rewind ... A few days before our Hawaiian holiday, we were treated to an al fresco dinner at Jenny and Steve's place. Their lovely oasis was the ideal setting for entertaining and relaxing. Their whole family were such gracious hosts.
Jenny was amazing with the grown-up menu as well as a flawlessly executed kid's program. Play, snacks, dinner on patio, cupcakes, and ending with movies with popcorn. The kids loved it! Who wouldn't? And, we all had a chance to sip a few glasses of wine with our summer supper, which included Steve's perfectly bbq'd lamb. Yum Yum!
Needless to say, we were spoiled... and enjoyed every minute. I'm sure Jennifer, John, and their kids felt the same way. It was the perfect way to spend those warm summer nights. Thanks guys!
